About the Artists
Escalante Rugs works ethically with weavers, bringing the rugs from Oaxaca to our little town in Northern California. The mini does not come with the specific artisans name, but all larger Zapotec rugs do.
The Zapotec Indians of Oaxaca, Mexico, known as "people of the clouds," raise sheep, hand card and spin their wool, dying the yarn using colorfast vegetal and aniline dyes. Using time-honored traditions, they hand-weave each rug creating a one-of-a-kind piece with designs ranging from traditional to contemporary. These 100% wool rugs are hand-woven on upright pedal looms.
