About the Artist:

Hugh Hope has been making pottery in Northern California since 1963.

He received his BFA under Reese Bullen at Humboldt State College in 1965. He then earned a Masters degree in Ceramics from Mills College in Oakland, CA in 1967 where he worked under the renowned ceramicist Antonio Prieto.

He draws influence from a variety of ceramic traditions including The California Clay Movement lead by Peter Voulkos in the 1950's, as well as traditional Japanese earthen-ware techniques.
