Established in 1970, in Occidental, California, Hand Goods began as a small outlet showcasing local artist’s work. Artist Nancy Farah created and ran Hand Goods for 25 years before the store transitioned to longtime employee Heidi Schmidt in 1996. Schmidt has continued the Hand Goods legacy by curating a wide variety of locally made artwork. Creating the unique atmosphere of gallery and retail store, where an original oil painting and a locally crafted card are featured with the same care.
Hand Goods has represented hundreds of local artists and makers, as well as numerous international artists. We offer a wide variety of locally made fine art and crafts. Including work from some of the finest Northern Californian potters, painters, textile makers, jewelers, and many more. We also offer a large variety of Zapotec rugs, fair trade and handcrafted items from around the world, and a small but excellent selection of books, journals and award winning novels.
Open 7 days a week, we are still right on Main Street, in Occidental, CA.
We are always seeking new artists to represent in the store and online, please send us a message about your art via the contact link. We look forward to seeing your work.
